Discover the World of Idioms with Dan Booth
Have you ever wondered “what the doctor ordered?” What ingredients are called for in a “recipe for disaster?” Or, how to “cheat death?” Welcome to the world of Idioms, where colorful expressions from the English language come to life in a humorous and slightly twisted fashion.
Author Dan Booth’s background in cartooning began in grade school and continued all the way through college, where his class notes were usually covered up or replaced with strange little doodles and sketches.
Intrigued by the abundance of commonly used but seldom understood expressions in the English language, the concept for The Book of Idioms began over 20 years ago. Dan started sketching out hundreds of these over a five-year span, the literal meanings drawn out in a delightfully odd and slightly twisted fashion. His drawing style and wild imagination lending themselves perfectly to the creation and development of this concept.
Ever the procrastinator, he finally got around to curating the first installment in The Book of Idioms series in 2024. The initial batch of strange and admittedly badly drawn cartoons were funny enough but needed a little punch, so the drawings were tightened up and colorized, giving them new life. With The Book of Idioms, Dan has created a bizarre and fascinating world, complete with anthropomorphic characters and unexpected situations.
While The Book of Idioms is successful in its objective of bringing smiles and laughter to the world, whether readers will find this the perfect coffee table book or more fit as bathroom reading material is still up for debate.
